Michael Swope – Golf Professional

Born in Roanoke, Virginia, Michael comes from a family generationally steeped in the game of golf. His grandfather recreationally caddied for Slammin’ Sam Snead at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia and his father, Wes Swope, was one of the most prolific and well-respected PGA Professionals in the Middle Atlantic Section.

In 2000, Michael moved to Chester, Virginia, and at the age of 12 took up the game. Under the tutelage of his father, he began competing in junior tournaments around the Richmond area, eventually competing in AJGA tournaments around the country.              

As a teenager, Michael honed his skills at The First Tee of Chesterfield, winning six Club Championships. During this time, he would also start his professional career, working various positions at The First Tee.

From 2006-2010, Michael was a member of the Thomas Dale High School Golf Team, leading the Knights to regional and state competitions.

In 2011, Michael received a golf scholarship to the Virginia State University, majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies. He helped his team win the 2011 Division II National Championship in West Palm Beach, Florida. Shortly after, in 2013, he became Assistant Golf Professional at Dogwood Trace Golf Course. In 2020, he transitioned into the role of Director of Instruction and continues to be a highly sought-after instructor in the Tri-Cities area.
